FILES

General file and path settings.

Select DCG Campaign Folder: Click on this setting if you wish to change between one campaign or another. Not required when using DGen or NGen replace modes.

Optional Campaign Folder: When using 3rd Party campaigns for DCG, click this option to set the path to the data for that campaign (or campaigns).

DCG Program Location: while DCG usually "knows" where it is, sometimes it loses itself. Click this to restore the path. A window should open and allow you to browse to IL2DCG.EXE.

Game Program Location: if you are using a single install of DCG for multiple installs of the game and or dedicated server, you must change the path to the active server using this setting.

Set Game Version: to ensure you have the correct planes and ground units for your version of the game, select your version using this setting. DCG will make a "best guess" if you don't.

EDIT

Clicking on one of these menu options will open a panel for editing DCG files. Most correspond to the icons below the Menu Bar. See the Panel Article for more information.

RUN

Generate Campaign: clicking this menu item will open a couple dropdown boxes to allow you to create a campaign just as if you clicked the "Globe" icon.

Generate Mission: generates a single mission of the active campaign as if you hit the "Generate Mission" button.

Run Game: runs the game that you have set the game path to.

Set Up Wizard: runs a little wizard to help novice users optimize their option settings for DCG.

OPTIONS

Universal options for campaigns.

Active Front: If checked, anti-tank guns (or in somecase armor) will be placed at contested locations. If unchecked, no extra guns or tanks will be placed.

Aircraft Downgrades: If checked, a squadron that has less planes available then the minimum to outfit the number of flights required for the mission will fly the "downgrade" of their aircraft type. If unchecked, the squadron will be grounded (or in the case of the player squadron, be forced to fly understrength).

Air Starts: if checked, allows flights to start airborne. If unchecked, all flights will start on the ground.

Beachhead Resets: if checked, defending units that reach a beachhead will be removed and respawn at supply centres. If unchecked, defending units will stop at the location before the beachhead and defend it.

Delayed Start Times: if checked, allows non-player squadrons to spawn on runways during the game.

Fixed Start Date/Squadrons: when a campaign advances to a new area/map, if there is a start date given for that campaign, the campaign date will skip ahead to that date if this option is checked. If not, the campaign will advance one week. In addition, if checked, squadrons will transfer to the new campaign only if they are found in that new campaign's template file. If unchecked, no squadrons except the player's squadron will transfer.

Historical Production Dates: If this is checked, over time, a player may now fly more than one plane type in the course of a year and other squadrons may receive new plane types as well. In addition, if a player choses a plane that is not yet available, it will prompt the player to chose another.

Island Palm Trees: if checked, the "Pacific" island will have palm trees (and poorer frame rates). If unchecked, the island will not have palm trees.

Link Maximums to Flights/Squadron: if unchecked, the maximum number of planes/squadron at the start of the campaign is 16 (4 for reconnaissance and transport squadrons). If checked, the maximum is the maximum number of active flights/squadron times 4.

Massed Bombers: if checked, any heavy/medium bomber unit will spawn with up to four flights regardless of the number of default flights selected. This group will always start airborne.

Night Campaign: Fly a dusk to dawn campaign as a night-fighter or night-bomber.

Normandy British Base: Activate the fictional British island base on the Normandy map (only for stock DCG campaigns).

No Transfers: if checked, no squadron will transfer unless their airfield is over-run. Exception: transport planes will always "transfer" from one base to the next as part of their duties.

No User Loadout: The user cannot modify the load-out if checked.

On-Line Briefings: if checked, on-line briefings will appear. If not checked, only a general description will appear.

Paratroopers: some planes such as the JU-52 can carry paratroopers. If this option is checked, these planes will drop paratroopers rather than bombs. (Not recommended for slower computers).

Primary Objectives: if checked, this option will require the player to complete their primary mission before being able to advance to a new mission in Pilot Career mode if the game's "No Instant Success" is turned on. Note: Some DCG missions cannot be completed successfully! Therefore, users of the original IL-2 game should always uncheck the "Primary Objectives" option as there is no "No Instant Success" option in that version of the game. For FB/PF/1946 users always ensure "Instant Success" is selected in the game's difficulty settings and then "Primary Objectives" can be checked (which stops players from seeing the "Mission Success" message a minute into the mission).

Random Nose Art: if checked, planes that can display nose art, will have nose art randomly displayed.

Ships Remain Sunk: if checked, all ships that are sunk will be eliminated from the campaign. If unchecked, transports and destroyers designated "DD" will be resurrected.

Single Map Campaign: if checked, the campaign will end when one side captures the other's last airfield or supply point. If unchecked, the campaign will switch to the next map in sequence. For example, if Germany wins in Crimea, the campaign will move to Kuban.

Squadron Management: if checked the player may move pilots on the roster list from one position to another by clicking on one pilot's name and then on a second one. The pilots will swap positions. Only works for the player's squadron and only in single-player mode.

Stats Reset on Death: if check if the player dies in Career mode, his pilot statistics will be reset to zero and any other events that happened that mission will be recorded. If unchecked, the mission can be reflown without penalty as if it never happened.

Tank Downgrades: if checked, if a tank is not yet available, DCG will try to replace it with an earlier equivalent. If not check, DCG will not activate it until it is available.

Track Losses: will keep a tally of losses to air and ground units. Note: the IL2/FB eventlog must be active for this feature to work. Note: even if this feature is unchecked, ground units will be tracked if the eventlog is activated.

Track On-Line Players: if checked DCG will assign and track ranks and awards for on-line campaigns (both coop and dogfight). If unchecked, no ranks or awards are given. Note: if you check and uncheck this option, all ranks will be reset to the lowest rank available.

MODE

DCG supports all game modes (Career Campaign, Coop, Dogfight, etc.). For complete information on setting up DCG for a specific mode see the Modes Article.

LANGUAGE

DCG mission briefings and debriefings can be in a number of different languages. DCG offers support for English, French, Spanish, Polish, German, Czech, and Russian. Also, in Dogfight mode, no matter what primary language is selected, a Russian mission properties file will be generated. To activate your prefered language, check it.

ghostrider, email me.

Is it possible to use the version on the forums which was designed for UP 2.0 on condition I wouldn't use new planes?

Lowengrin on 03 Sep : 08:03
Rumours, rumours, rumours. The latest (as yet unreleased) version of DCG has enhancements which work with MDS.

ghostrider on 03 Sep : 01:05
Hi, Paul, I've read something about new version of DCG, which would work with UP 2.01. Is there any progress?

Lowengrin on 24 Aug : 15:03
All but Med'41. However, the Russian ones follow a German/Russian path and you may find yourself fighting in 1945 for Berlin.

D-XXI on 24 Aug : 13:51
Paul,

thx, I will try that as soon as my own computer has been fixed.

As I could select the Italian career from DCG (Med'41, Tobruk'41, Typhoon '41, Rhez '42 and Kursk, I assumed that those campaigns are linked.

Lowengrin on 22 Aug : 21:16
Further to my note below, as the winner was Italy, you need to change the "Red" to "Blue" in the first line.

Lowengrin on 22 Aug : 21:15
Med'41 is actually a stand-alone campaign. It doesn't link to anything. If you want it to link to Tobruk '41, you'll need to add the following to the grandcampaign.dcg file:

[Mediterranean41 o Tobruk41] Red
Campaign=Western_Campaign
Map=SandsOfTime
StartDate=01/12/1941
Front=Tobruk_Supply_Depot
DeHome=Bengazi_Road
RuHome=El_Alamein_Road
DeBase=Gazala_Airfield
RuBase=Gambut_Airfield
Locale1=Maleme_Airfield
Locale2=Maleme
Locale3=Bengazi_Road_Depot
Locale4=Maleme_Beachhead

Hello Paul,

I have a problem witk the DCG Italian Career. When the first campaign (Mediterrenean) ends because the enemy has retreated, I do not progress to the next campaign (Tobruk). I only get new missions without any enemies. Do you have any ideas?

Lowengrin on 11 Aug : 17:28
You're welcome.
